The Newropeans "Grands Prix"
aim at rewarding every year, from
2003 on, the actors (individuals
and organisations) of EU democratisation.
These awards represent a double
premiere in EU history in terms
of European awards as they intend
to highlight through three different
aspects the essential link between
European construction and democracy
seen from three angles :
1.
by rewarding European the actors
of this democratisation :
indeed, they contribute to underline
the action of those who actively
take part in the emergence of
a united and democratic Europe
; while the European awards have
been so far focusing exclusively
on the contribution to the construction
of a united Europe … with
a complete black-out on citizens
the democracy.
2. by having the winners
elected by representatives of
the European civil society :
the “Grands Prix”
are granted by a wide jury made
of some 200 actors of the European
civil society coming from 25 States:
representatives from universities,
schools, regions, cities, associations,
foundations, media and companies,
of different ages and professions.
The elections will take place
by Internet.
3. by considering
democratization a very concrete
process involving European mobility,
accessibility and conviviality
:
EU democratisation is indeed conceived
like a complex phenomenon, largely
exceeding the purely institutional
or governmental level. For the
Newropeans, as well as for their
partners (Europe 2020 and Europe
Plus), it represents a real process
including physical mobility accross
the continent, intellectual and
financial accessibility to Europe
and capacity of doing and living
together among Europeans.
