the Internet
Societal task
Force, I will
seek to provide
a unique perspective
on how cutting-edge
information
and communication
technology and
training can
be provided
from a European
base to develop
the lealth sector
and bridge the
digital divide
in the Third
World, with
a particular
focus on the
poor and marginalised
populations.
This will be
with reference
to
1) the Health
Information
for Development
project, which
has been documenting
all the health
information
resources centres
in the developping
world, and will
be launching
a large-scale
techbnological
capacity building
in 1,000 of
them - the largest
such international
connectivity
project in the
health sector,
with pilot projects
to be supported
by the European
Commission,
among other
major partners
and funders
;
2) information
ethics (as founder
and Chair of
the Special
Interest Group
on Information
Ethics of the
International
Federation for
Information
and Documentation
(FID) ;
3) extraMED
a monthly CD-Rom
I have been
producing, which
contains the
full text of
over 300 Third
World biomedical
journals.
