- VENDREDI 6 OCTOBRE -

M. Chris ZIELINSKI, Directeur, Health Information for Development Project, Internet Society, Angleterre
Intervention : 'Ethics, Poverty and Information Acess in the Global Health Sector - Large-Scale Networking for Locally Appropriate Content Delivery'

Representing the Internet Societal task Force, I will seek to provide a unique perspective on how cutting-edge information and communication technology and training can be provided from a European base to develop the lealth sector and bridge the digital divide in the Third World, with a particular focus on the poor and marginalised populations.

This will be with reference to

1) the Health Information for Development project, which has been documenting all the health information resources centres in the developping world, and will be launching a large-scale techbnological capacity building in 1,000 of them - the largest such international connectivity project in the health sector, with pilot projects to be supported by the European Commission, among other major partners and funders ;

2) information ethics (as founder and Chair of the Special Interest Group on Information Ethics of the International Federation for Information and Documentation (FID) ;

3) extraMED a monthly CD-Rom I have been producing, which contains the full text of over 300 Third World biomedical journals.
